This is a set of hand felted cat ball toys. The felted cat toys have been made using a wet felting method with hand dyed pure merino wool. The felt balls are made the old fashioned way, using ordinary soap, water and a wash board. The wool is shaped into a ball, then rolled by hand, dipping in hot and cold water, and then hard felted by rubbing on a washboard.
The production of each cat toy is carefully hand rolled under the watchful eye of my Quality Control Officer – Musti the Cat.
Cats are naturally attracted to the scent of wool and natural lanolin. You can roll the ball in a bit of catnip to give your cat a bit of extra pleasure.
If you would like the felted balls to be infused with catnip, please let me know and I can make a special order for you.
The felted cat balls are shipped in a small mesh gift bag, ready to give to someone as a special gift.

This Scandinavian style tonttu is a needle felted elf-like Christmas tree decoration. The tonttu like to wear colourful tall hats. The tonttu is very shy and doesn’t like it when people look him in the eye. He wears his hat over his eyes and peeks out when you are not watching.
A Tonttu (Finland) Tomte (Sweden) or Nisse (Norway) is a traditional creature from Scandinavian folklore typically associated with the winter solstice and the Christmas season. According to tradition, the tonttu live in the forest. Some tomtes secretly live in houses and act as a guardian to the household. If treated well, they protect children and animals from evil and misfortune. The Christmas tonttu brings gifts to children from Santa. Be sure to leave him a bowl of porridge on Christmas eve.

An exhibition of hand felted art paintings created by textile artist Paivi Suomi, who works from her studio in Chichester.
Wool and felt wall hangings have traditionally served both as art and with functional purpose to provide insulation to the walls and keep the draught out.
Felt art is very soft and tactile and is meant to be touched.
The images and colours of my world around me are the inspiration to create my art with wool. I hand dye most of my wools, yarns and silk fibres and use locally sourced wools wherever possible. These become the paints that create my canvas. A combination of hand crafting textile techniques: wet felting, dry needle felting, crochet, hand stitching and machine embroidery complete the work.
From an early age, the world of textiles has been Paivi’s passion. She studied hand weaving, hand spinning, felt making and colour theory at Kootenay School of the Arts in British Columbia. Paivi operates a business selling her limited edition hand spun yarns. More recently Paivi has turned her attention to the art of felt making, creating pictures and functional objects with wool.
Some of my felt art pieces are now available at Saatchi Art.
