This is a workshop designed for the beginner hand spinner or for those who have tried to learn to spin but are still struggling.
I keep the beginner spinner workshop short in length, only 3 hours, because your hands and feet are doing new things that you are not accustomed to so you get tired. It is better to spin a little at a time and practice every day rather than trying to overdo it.
You will learn about how a spinning wheel works. How to become familiar with your spinning wheel. How to control the twist and to spin with an even tension. How to join yarn and spin a bobbin full of yarn.

I have a few spinning wheels that are available for the workshops that you can try out before you purchase a spinning wheel of your own. If you do own a wheel, then please bring it along if you can, as each wheel has its own characteristics.

Due to recent illness, Handspinning workshops are not being offered on a regular basis. Please do contact me if you would like to be notified of future workshops.

All of my hand spinning workshops use commercially prepared, clean and carded batts or roving. I prefer not to use fleece straight off the sheep. (Life is too short so I leave the messy bits to those who are qualified and have the space and equipment required to clean fleece properly.) If you wish to learn how to spin, clean and sort raw fleece there are many other classes and teachers that can get you started such as:
