10 Natural Plant Dyed Colours x 20 meters per skein

A pack of 10 skeins of lace weight Blue Faced Leicester wool yarn that has been hand dyed with natural plant dyes.

The yarn is a fine lace weight superwash pure wool, suitable for crewel embroidery, tapestry work, crochet or fine lace knitting.
Each skein is approx. 20 meters in length
The natural dyed wool yarns are packaged in an organza mesh bag that can be re-used.

The colours in each pack are individually dyed – so each kit will have different colours AND will not be the colours that are shown. (It is too difficult and time consuming to photograph each yarn kit. Natural plant dyed colours are always harmonious and can be mixed and matched.

The natural dyes are created using plants, leaves, flowers, tree barks and minerals that have been used and tested through the ages. Naturally dyed colours fade gently yet remain beautiful.
Some of the dye plants that I use to create the many shades of the rainbow are:
Reds: Madder root, Brazilwood, Cochineal, Sandalwood
Yellows: Weld, Fustic, Dyers Greenwood, Flame of the Forest, Osage Orange
Blues: Indigo, Woad, Japanese Indigo
Purples and Greys: Alkanet, Logwood
Greens: A blend of Yellows and Blues

All of my Indie Art Yarns are dyed in small batches, making each yarn unique. I use a zero-waste dye method, When there are small amounts of dye pigment remaining in the dye vat, I pour this into another dye vat so no dye is wasted.
The yarns are pre-mordanted using natural alum or tannins that prepare the yarn to absorb the natural colour pigments.

All yarns are hand washed, dried and rewound after the dye process is complete. There may still be some residual plant residue in the yarns that will naturally fall off.
