Paivatar SISU Hand Spun

Sisu Handspun Yarn – Kivi1

This listing is for one skein of PAIVATAR SISU hand spun using a blend of fine quality natural wool fibres (Blue Faced Leicester, Finn, and Corriedale). The base for this yarn is a blend of natural grey and white wools, speckled with turquoise, and blue wools.
The Kivi wool yarns are spun with a natural wool colours base (white, shades of grey or natural brown sheep wool) and bits of dyed wool are artfully blended into the wool batt during the carding process. ‘Kivi’ is the Finnish word for rocks. In nature, rocks and earth are not just grey or brown, but are speckled with shades of colour.

About SISU Handspun – I have borrowed the word ‘sisu’ from my Finnish ancestors. The Finns are known to have a spirit of extraordinary determination in the face of extreme adversity, and courage that is presented typically in situations where success is unlikely.(Wikipedia)
The Sisu hand spun yarns are produced in the traditional way, spun from locally sourced wools as much as possible in order to reduce my carbon footprint. The natural wool fibres are hand dyed with natural plant dyes. (With some of the yarns, I add bits of commercially dyed fleece that I have left in stock – as I don’t like to waste materials.)
