Description

This is a SIGGA 8 plastic weaving reed designed for weaving Sami style bands. The reed was designed by Stoorstalka of Sweden, who are well known for their Sami band weaving reeds, shuttles and tools and their use of modern materials for a traditional craft.

The Sigga heddle has been specially designed for weaving ‘jumping’ or ‘floating’ types of patterns, where the pattern warp threads travel over or under the ground weave. The pattern threads are drawn through short slots rather than small holes, so this allows for the use of thicker or double pattern threads.
No. Pattern Slots: 8
No. Long Slots: 17
No. Holes: 18

The Sigga 8 heddle measures 16 cm x 14 cm

THIS LISTING IS FOR THE WEAVING REED ONLY. SHUTTLE NOT INCLUDED. SOME PHOTOS MAY SHOW EXAMPLES OF THE WEAVING REED IN USE.

The Sigga 8 heddle allows for a maximum of 8 pattern threads and 10 ground weave threads on either side of the band.
You can of course, weave a narrower band by not using all of the pattern threads.

The width of the finished band can vary depending on the number of threads you use, the type and thickness of yarn and your weaving tension. When using the Ahkko type of weaving yarn (fingering/sock weight) the finished bands are approximately 2 cm width.

Please check my other listings for different sizes and styles of Sigga, Sunna, Beaivi and other Stoorkstalka weaving tools.
